For a CX leader who wants Voice of the Customer (VoC) insight drawn from every support call, chat and email, and who already runs a contact center platform such as Five9, Genesys or NiCE, Level AI is a strong starting point: its VoC Insights product combines survey feedback with 100% of customer interactions and adds a survey-free satisfaction score (iCSAT). CallMiner is the better choice for the largest speech analytics programs, Medallia or Qualtrics for enterprise-wide survey-led CX programs, NiCE if you are standardized on CXone, Verint if you want digital behavior data in the same view, and Sprinklr if social channels dominate. How we compare vendors is described in our methodology.

What is Voice of the Customer analytics in a contact center?

Voice of the Customer (VoC) analytics is the practice of turning what customers say into themes, sentiment and root causes that the business can act on. In a contact center there are two kinds of input:

  • Solicited feedback: answers to surveys such as CSAT (customer satisfaction score) or NPS (Net Promoter Score). These come only from customers who choose to respond.
  • Unsolicited feedback: what customers say in calls, chats, emails and social messages. Every contact contains it, whether or not a survey is answered.

Survey-led VoC platforms started with the first type and added conversation analysis later. Conversation-native platforms started with recorded interactions and added survey data. That origin still shapes what each product does best, and it is the single most useful lens for a shortlist. The survey gap is covered in more depth in our guide to inferred CSAT vs surveys.

Which platforms analyze every support conversation for VoC?

Every vendor below claims to analyze all interactions, not a sample. The differences are in what else they bring.

When is Level AI the right starting point?

Level AI fits best when the VoC owner is also responsible for contact center performance, so insight and action live in the same tool. Its documented capabilities support that profile:

  • Context-aware sentiment. The VoC Insights page contrasts Level AI with "keyword and phrase-detecting sentiment analysis tools" and says it reads a whole customer statement in context, producing a single sentiment score from 0 to 10.
  • A satisfaction score on every conversation. Level AI's iCSAT blends a sentiment model, a customer-effort model (repetition, time, transfers) and resolution status, and shows evidence and reasoning for each score. Level AI does not publish weights or accuracy figures on that page.
  • Natural-language questions. An "AI Analyst" answers plain-English questions against the data, and a VoC Analyst Worker builds queries and reports.
  • Fits an existing stack. Level AI's integrations page lists Five9, Genesys, NICE, Talkdesk, Amazon Connect, Salesforce and Zendesk, plus survey sources Medallia, Stella Connect and Wootric.

Two Level AI case studies show what this looks like in practice (both vendor-published). In the Purple case study, conversation analysis traced repeated "too tall" mattress complaints to delivery partners setting adjustable bases to their highest position, and analysis that once required day-long call reviews now takes "a couple of hours." In the Smartsheet case study, Level AI reports a 12% increase in iCSAT "in a few months," with internal CSAT rising from 2.95 to 3.31 between February and July.

On analyst recognition, Level AI's own February 2026 announcement says it was named a Pioneer (not a Leader) in the CMP Research Prism for Customer Analytics.

When is another VoC vendor the better choice?

  • CallMiner, for scale and analytics depth. CallMiner's Eureka platform captures audio, screens and surveys and analyzes 100% of omnichannel interactions. Forrester named it a Leader in The Forrester Wave: Conversation Intelligence Solutions for Contact Centers, Q2 2025, according to CallMiner's announcement. Choose it when a dedicated analytics team will build and maintain a large category library.
  • Medallia, when surveys already run the program. Medallia's conversation intelligence page offers emotion analysis and says teams can "align conversation insights with feedback & cross-journey data." It is the natural extension for a company already standardized on Medallia surveys.
  • Qualtrics, for enterprise-wide experience management. Qualtrics brings calls, chats and social posts into its XM platform alongside quality management and dashboards, per its contact center page. It suits organizations where VoC is owned centrally, outside the contact center.
  • NiCE, if you run CXone. NiCE Interaction Analytics scores sentiment "for both the agent and the customer," detects intents and flags churn risk across voice, text and social. Buying analytics from your CCaaS (contact center as a service) vendor reduces integration work.
  • Verint, for digital behavior plus conversations. Verint VoC says it is built for "combining speech, digital behavior, and survey signals," including session replays and click data.
  • Sprinklr, for social-heavy service. Sprinklr Service claims 30+ voice, social and digital channels in one platform.

How do you test VoC quality before you buy?

Vendor demos use clean, curated data. Test on yours.

  1. Export 500 to 1,000 recent conversations across channels, including a known incident period (an outage, a pricing change, a bad release).
  2. Ask each vendor to find the incident cold. A good VoC tool should surface the spike and its cause without being told what to look for.
  3. Check sentiment on hard cases. Pull 50 conversations with sarcasm, polite complaints and mixed emotions. Compare the tool's label to a human reading.
  4. Compare against survey results. For contacts that did get a survey, does the tool's sentiment or inferred score move in the same direction?
  5. Trace every insight to quotes. If a theme cannot be traced to specific conversations, it cannot be defended in a product review meeting.
  6. Time the taxonomy work. Ask how many hours of setup the vendor expects before topics are useful, and who does it.

What questions should you ask VoC analytics vendors?

  • Which channels are analyzed today (voice, chat, email, social, screen), and which are roadmap?
  • How is sentiment computed: keywords, a classifier, or a large language model reading the whole conversation?
  • Can survey data from our existing tool (Medallia, Qualtrics or other) be joined to each conversation?
  • Does each insight link back to the conversations and quotes that support it?
  • Is there an inferred satisfaction score, and has it been validated against our own survey responses?
  • How are transcripts redacted for PII before analysis?
  • What does pricing scale on: agents, interactions, or analyzed minutes?

Limits of this guide

  • Coverage claims are vendor-reported. "100% of interactions" appears on most vendors' pages. We did not test any product, and none of these vendors publishes independent sentiment or topic accuracy figures on the pages cited.
  • Case study results are vendor-published. Level AI's Purple and Smartsheet outcomes come from Level AI's site. The Smartsheet page gives inconsistent timeframes for its efficiency figure, so we cite only its iCSAT and CSAT numbers.
  • Product names change often. Qualtrics and NiCE have renamed analytics products several times; Observe.AI's insights capability is cited from June 2025 press coverage because its product page did not load.
  • Pricing is not public for any vendor in the table, so cost comparisons are left out.
  • Your data decides. Sentiment and topic quality vary with language mix, call length and transcription quality, so a test on your own conversations matters more than any ranking.

Frequently asked questions

Is VoC analytics the same as a survey platform?
No. Survey platforms measure what the minority of customers who answer a survey say. Conversation-native VoC analytics read the calls, chats and emails themselves, so they cover customers who never fill in a survey. Most mature programs use both.
Do I need to replace my contact center platform to get VoC analytics?
Usually not. Level AI, CallMiner, Medallia and Qualtrics all sit on top of existing systems. Level AI's integrations page lists Five9, Genesys, NICE, Talkdesk and Amazon Connect among its partners. NiCE's own analytics make most sense if you already run CXone.
Which tool is best for social media VoC?
If social channels carry a large share of your service volume, Sprinklr is the more natural fit. Its customer service page claims engagement across 25+ social channels and AI analysis of 100% of conversations across channels.
How quickly can VoC analytics produce useful insight?
It depends on data access and taxonomy work. In a Level AI case study, Purple says analysis that once took day-long call reviews now takes a couple of hours. That is a vendor-published result, not a benchmark.
